Sweet November Dance Company: World of Wonders

Sweet November Dance Company (SNDC) is proud to present its fall dance concert, World of Wonders, in front of a live audience in the Palmer Cultural Center at 19:00 on the evening of Wednesday, November 22.

Established in 2017 by Ms. Julie Frazier-Smith, SNDC has performed for the TASIS community ten times, most recently in the 2023 Spring Arts Festival Performing Arts Showcase, Shine, and last November, when the company unveiled 10 choreographed dances at its 2022 fall concert, Kaleidoscope.

This fall’s concert is inspired by Aimee Nezhukumatathil’s New York Times Bestselling book World of Wonders: In Praise of Fireflies, Whale Sharks, and Other Astonishments. Professor Nezhukumatathil was recently on campus as part of the 2023–2024 TASIS Speaker Series, and Modern Dance students had the wonderful opportunity to meet with her and share their piece for the upcoming concert.

The upcoming concert will feature the High School students who make up the Sweet November Dance Company, students who are in the new High School Performing Arts course, selected actors from the High School, Modern Dance students from the Elementary School and Middle School, and faculty members. There will also be two special guest artists: Jami Reimer (interdisciplinary performance maker and composer from Winnipeg, Canada) and Jess Gardolin (Locarno-based actor, dancer, and aerialist originally from Rio do Sul, Brazil).

World of Wonders will be an immersive experience with seating available on all sides of the stage, and, in the spirit of the theme, we invite our guests to upload any image of nature that evokes a feeling of wonder within themselves. For example, you can upload a photo of your favorite trail in Ticino, a photo of your favorite flower from your home country, or a photo of that special place in nature that encourages your tension to melt away and makes you feel comfortable or alive.

You will see the option to upload a photo when you fill out the registration form. We will project these images throughout the concert to add to the special ambiance!

Sweet November Dance Company Sweet November Dance Company (SNDC) is a TASIS High School dance company that celebrates community-engaged art and is dedicated to fostering mastery in individual and ensemble dance performances. SNDC members develop proficiency in varied dance techniques including ballet, modern, jazz, aerial, and hip hop dance. Each season a guest dance artist comes to set a piece on the dance company to add to the already varied styles of dance offered by TASIS faculty members. Additionally, students are offered support and choreographic devices to create their own original choreography. Each year the company has a fall and spring performance in the TASIS Palmer Cultural Center, where the entire TASIS community comes together to celebrate dance and the arts.
