Class of 1987 - 30th Anniversary Reunion | Lugano
Posted 07/11/2017 02:11PM

The Alumni Office was delighted when the Class of 1987 began to arrive around lunchtime on June 16—livening up one of the quietest days of the year on the TASIS campus. Warm hugs and a touch of disbelief at being together again welcomed each new arrival, and by 7 PM most had arrived. The reminiscing and catching-up continued at a pre-dinner happy hour in the Lanterna common room and was followed by an elegant group dinner, complete with a Lugano sunset, at the Principe Leopoldo. Everyone adjourned to their common room back on campus after dinner for more quality time and good tunes provided by Galen Crader on piano and guitar.

On Saturday morning, alumni and their guests were led on a campus tour. They absolutely loved visiting their old dorms, often the highlight of any return to campus. Some of the old dorms don't exist any more (Lago and Prato), but many could point out exactly which patch of ground they used to be on!

The group enjoyed spectacular weather all weekend, and Saturday's boat ride on the lake provided a good sunbathing opportunity before the group retired under the veranda at Grotto al Parco in Morcote for a delicious lunch.

The garden of Casa Fleming was the venue for aperitifs and dinner on Saturday evening, and everyone was delighted to see Steve Loesche, who drove down from Lucerne just to join the dinner. Chantal Eley Gordon, in residence for the TASIS Summer Programs, and other current faculty attended the send-off brunch the next morning.

A heartfelt thanks is owed to Alex de Bruin, who did a fantastic job organizing the reunion! Reflections sent by Chris Muncy afterward effectively summed up the general feeling of those who attended:

"For many of us this was the first time to be back to a beloved home away from home. The campus is absolutely stunning to say the least. It was great to see all the new buildings and the amazing transformations that have taken place to allow Mrs. Fleming's vision and mission to touch the lives of so many young people."
