Romeo and Juliet
The TASIS Theater department performed Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet for their fall production. This was an ambitious endeavor for everyone involved. The top floor of Aurora was transformed into a Verona street by TASIS art instructor, Martyn Dukes. This temporary theater space also had to be fitted with lights, stage, curtains, and seating by the end of October. Tryouts happened early in the term, and rehearsals began right away. A special Fall In Program travel trip was arranged for thirty of the cast members to Mrs. Fleming's home in Tuscany for additional rehearsal time and specific instruction in sword fighting. Derrick Chappell joined the group from TASIS England to work with the swordfighters in order to choreograph the fight scenes and to learn a bit of swordsmanship.
Romeo and Juliet opened on November 6th and played through Parents' Weekend (November 11th). The performances were all spectacular, and congratulations are in order for Director Kay Hamblin and the entire cast and crew.
