Event Recap:

ZIS 7's Invitational Points

Scores and Match Schedule

After an early start from Ticino on Saturday, October 7, the members of the TASIS Rugby 7s team were in high spirits as they headed for their first tournament of the year: the International Schools Sports League (ISSL) 7s Tournament at Zurich International School (ZIS). This was the first time TASIS had been back at ZIS in ten years, and despite the high spirits, it quickly became a hard learning experience for the newly formed team. With only two members of the squad having ever touched a rugby ball, let alone thrown one, before the start of this season, it was always going to be an uphill battle against other much more established and experienced teams. Despite being on the receiving end of several tough losses, the courage and enthusiasm shown by this young team gained them an ovation at the beginning of the award ceremony by all the other teams and the event organizers. Nobody likes to lose, but the players have taken much away from the experience and bonded more as a team.

A special shout needs to be given to the work and leadership given by Juan Pablo Jaspeado Villanueva ’20, the two tries and team direction by Kazu Nakanishi ’20, the powerful drives and try by Omar Rahal ’20, the pace and determination shown by Pablo Rivero Dominguez ’20, and finally the bravery of Ryoma Ikeda ’21.

Complete TASIS Rugby 7s roster for the ISSL Tournament:
Nicolas Brinkmann ’20, Can Haluk Ferhatoglu ’20, Mislav Ilijas ’20, Juan Pablo Jaspeado Villanueva ’20, Qeis Mezghani ’20, Kazu Nakanishi ’20, Omar Rahal ’20, Pablo Rivero Dominguez ’20, Artyom Yakushenko ’20, Enrique Avila Asapche ’21, and Ryoma Ikeda ‘21
