60th Anniversary Campaign
What we are doing, or at least attempting to do, is to create not international schools but international human beings, men and women who are capable of moving easily in any society and any civilization on the face of the earth.
– MCF, 1983 speech
If TASIS holds a special place in your heart, we hope you will consider taking part in our 60th Anniversary Campaign, which honors Mrs. Fleming’s legacy.
Mrs. Fleming’s strongest belief was that our best hope of defeating chaos is through education, and 60 years ago she dreamed of a place in which young people from all over the globe could gather, develop an appreciation for one another’s cultures, and work together to make the world a safer and better place. From this vision emerged TASIS, the School she described as “a microcosm of what the world should and could be.”
MCF Today Mrs. Fleming would be prouder than ever of her creation. Her beloved School attracts passionate and caring educators from all over the world and welcomes students from more than 60 nations. Her first international student, Jan Opsahl ’68, envisioned and helped fund a Global Service Program that has now brought hundreds of TASIS students face-to-face with some of the world’s most challenging economic, political, and social issues.
Mrs. Fleming’s raison d'être was to do her part to leave the world a better place. It is our duty to carry on this work in her absence.
As we continue to celebrate 60 years of TASIS, we ask you to join us in honoring Mrs. Fleming’s legacy by making a gift to the M. Crist Fleming Endowment for International Understanding and Leadership.
The Endowment is an important resource to ensure the long-term continuity of Mrs. Fleming’s ideals, with the interest from the Endowment supporting and funding a variety of initiatives that carry on her vision. In the past, this Fund has helped bring two students from war-torn Afghanistan to TASIS, both of whom are now thriving at university. It supports the Senior Humanities Program and the Global Service Program, both of which are now pillars of our School’s curriculum. It also funds the Khan-Page Master Teacher Award, the highest honor for a TASIS teacher and a key part of the efforts to encourage our excellent faculty, for so long the heart of the TASIS experience. Funding the Endowment means supporting more initiatives that bring Mrs. Fleming’s vision into a world that is badly in need of her guidance.
Our goal for the 60th Anniversary Campaign is to raise $600,000 by the close of 2016, and we are 20 percent of the way there thanks to $60,000 from the Estate of Nicholas Major PG ’68 (part of a generous $460,000 legacy gift) and other gifts totaling $60,000 so far.
We still have a long way to go to reach our target. Can we count on your support?
