September

Check that your qualifications (IB, AP, TASIS diploma, etc), including specific subjects, are recognized for entry to a particular country, university, and course.

Attend a UCAS presentation at TASIS for UK applications.

January/February

Research courses and universities and start to build a file of your preferences.

Explore the following websites, which will help you determine your interests and introduce you to the world of UK higher education:

Attend the TASIS UK Academic Travel trip if this does not conflict with other required trips.

Make a first individual appointment with the TASIS UK College Counselor.

By the end of February

Create a personal research timetable for use during the next six months and establish a system for recording outcomes of research.

Check if particular work experience will be required by universities or colleges.

Check dates of early university Open Days and make visit arrangements. (Plan these for vacation times so that your studies at TASIS are not disrupted.)

March

Examine specific courses and individual universities on www.ucas.com.

April/May

Find out about your fee status and possible financial support and discuss this with your parents.

Use prospectuses and websites to develop an understanding of specific subject choices and related career prospects. Narrow down your choices to a maximum of 10 that includes a range of university entrance requirements that reflect your academic performance at TASIS. Check if a course/institution requires specific entrance tests (e.g., UKCAT, LNAT, BMAT). If yes, check the dates and registration deadlines for the tests. Draft a UCAS personal statement.

Attend “How to Complete the UCAS Application” sessions.

June/July/August

Registration for UCAS Apply commences in June. Open an account linked to TASIS and complete as much as possible of the application by following the online instructions.

Discuss your course and university choices after receiving your TASIS grade report, and seek alternatives in light of those discussions.

Do summer school work, summer programs, work experience, etc. that are relevant to improving your grades, help you understand if your choices of subjects for university are correct, and make your application more attractive to universities.
