Service Learning News

Heifer International Service Learning Group
The Heifer International Service Learning Group has raised CHF 188 by selling Christmas Cards the past two weeks during recess and after school. The students created the holiday greeting cards with a token piece of chocolate inside during their service learning class. The sale was originally planned just for last week (December 3–7), but the students were so enthusiastic that they asked their teachers, Mr. and Mrs. Frazier-Smith, if they could keep creating and fundraising the following week. It was heartwarming to see the students identify a need that they could help with and ask to do more.

All proceeds will go toward buying a sheep for a family through Heifer International's gift catalogue.

Service Learning Group
The Cometa Service Learning group held a "Christmas Spirit" No-Uniform Day right before the Christmas holidays. Students were encouraged to wear something green or red to share in the Christmas Spirit and helped raise CHF 617. Proceeds will help fund a 2019–2020 scholarship for a Cometa student in need.

Located in Como, this unique charity home serves as a community of families involved in temporary or permanent adoption. Cometa also teaches manual/practical jobs to high schoolers who have found traditional schools challenging or have a big interest in learning manual jobs. MS students in the Cometa SL group have been introduced to this extraordinary institution, and they are enthusiastic to help. For further information, do not hesitate to contact Ms. Avaldi, visit the Cometa website, or read this article.

Staff Appreciation Service Learning Group
Students in the Staff Appreciation Service Learning group prepared and hosted a delicious lunch for personale on the afternoon of December 5. This group aims to show appreciation for, and raise awareness of, everything the TASIS staff does to make the School a wonderful place to learn and live. Thank you to all the parents who prepared some homemade baked goodies for our personale. (Enjoy more photos from the Staff Appreciation brunch and other Holiday events on the TASIS SmugMug page.)

Event Planners and Student Council
Congratulations to the Student Council and Event Planners Service Learning groups for their great teamwork and commitment in organizing and holding the MS Christmas Celebration. The event was a huge success!

Winter Uniform

Many students are getting sick this time of the year, and this is a gentle reminder that students must come to school dressed in their winter uniforms.

  • All students must have the TASIS crest on the top layer.
  • Only TASIS scarves are allowed.
  • Hats must be taken off while indoors.
  • Athletic shoes, white soles, heavy boots, rubber rain boots, and Uggs are not permitted (though this policy may be relaxed during rain and snow).

MS Attendance

Reminder: To inform the school of an absence (for the full academic day, single classes, or after-school activities), please go to the Student Attendance & Transportation Request area of the Veracross Parent Portal as soon as possible and provide details of the absence. Please be specific, make sure to choose the correct date, and always provide the reason. An absence may only be excused by the School, which reserves the right to determine whether an absence is excused or unexcused.

If you have any questions regarding attendance records or need assistance in reporting an absence in Veracross, please contact

CIS Community Survey & ACE Learning Survey

All parents should have recently received an email with a link to the CIS Community Survey & ACE Learning Survey. This survey is a key part of our re-accreditation process and will help us identify strengths and areas in need of improvement.

If you have not had a chance to fill out the survey as of yet, we kindly ask that you consider completing it by January 30, at which point the survey will close. Please note that you can complete one survey per child enrolled at TASIS. Thank you very much for your time and consideration, and please contact Nilda Lucchini with any questions.

Parents Welcome to Attend TSS Event on February 5

As part of the TASIS Speaker Series (TSS), accomplished screenwriter Mike Lesslie will address the senior class on Tuesday, February 5, at 19:00 in the Palmer Center. You can read more about Mike in this article published on the TASIS website, but he is a gifted writer, most famous for writing the screenplays for major film productions of Macbeth (2015) and Assassin's Creed (2016), in addition to numerous playwright credits.

In partnership with the TPA, we are opening the TSS events to parents who would like to attend the lectures. More reminders will follow in subsequent communication from the School, but if you are interested in attending Mike Lesslie's address on February 5, please email Peter Locke so he can reserve your place. We hope that you will be able to take advantage of this valuable learning opportunity.

TASIS Staff Christmas Dinner

Dear Parents,

The TPA proudly supported the TASIS Staff Christmas Dinner on December 15 by providing the raffle prizes for the event. We donated 70 TPA Cookbooks, and a group gift from each grade: 1st through 12th. These donations served as an acknowledgment and thank you to all the hardworking teachers and staff members who support our children throughout the year.

The TPA and the TASIS parent community worked together to make this a wonderful and exciting event for the TASIS staff. Thank you so much for your continued support and dedication to making TASIS a dynamic, supportive, and engaging place for our children to grow and learn.

With gratitude,

Brunella Pignaton and Laura Colombo
TPA Co-Presidents
