Fall Break: Please take note that there is no school for MS and HS students on Monday, October 7.

Interim Grades: Interim grades will be available in Veracross today at 17:00, but please note that academic grades will not be included at this time. Feedback from teachers and parents was that there was not enough information at this point for an accurate academic grade, so we have asked teachers to focus on effort grades for now. You will see an effort grade and a comment for any student who receives a 1 or 2. Teachers may also add comments if they have any specific messages to communicate at this time.

MAP Results: MAP results will be mailed to your home address next week. There will be a MAP informational meeting for parents on Thursday, October 17, in Monticello 1 and 2 at 18:00. These scores do not count in your child's academic grade. They are used by the school to track growth and progress.

MS Parent Coffee and Meeting

We want to thank all the parents who attended the Middle School Parent Coffee on Wednesday that was devoted to health-related issues: vaping, e-cigarettes, drugs, and alcohol. Here is the presentation for those who could not attend.

The next MS Parent Coffee will be held on the morning of Wednesday, October 16, from 8:30–9:30 at Casa Fleming. The topic will be MS Academic Travel.

Assemblies and Advisor Meetings Last Week

On Tuesday, October 1, students had their first Service Learning meeting. These meetings will be held each Tuesday from 15:25–15:55.

During Assembly on Wednesday, October 2, the MS Academic Dean, Mr. Fitzgerald, discussed how to use interim grades to set goals. He explained SMART goals and how to set academic and personal goals.

During the Advisor block on Thursday, October 4, students set academic and personal goals.

Shuttle Bus Safety

Seat belts
We kindly ask all parents of children who ride a shuttle bus to help them understand how important it is to keep their seat belts fastened for the entire ride. Our drivers check to make sure all students are buckled in before departure, but some students have been unfastening their seat belts during the trip to or from school. It is difficult for our drivers to monitor this while they are concentrating on the road, so please help us communicate this message to your children.

We also ask you to please review our Shuttle Bus Behavior Expectations (page 64) with your children and make sure they understand that failure to follow the rules will result in infractions. The Shuttle Service privilege will be taken away from students who incur three infractions in one semester.

Electronic devices
We have also been made aware of some unfortunate behavior with electronic devices on our shuttles buses—including the playing of inappropriate music/video content at loud volumes—and would like to limit the use of these devices on the rides to and from school, which we consider to be an extension of the school day. (Please note that the use of mobile phones and other electronic devices is not permitted at meals or in the classroom.)

We understand that students may occasionally need to send a quick message home, and that kind of behavior remains acceptable. They should also be wearing headphones if they want to watch videos or listen to music. We do not want students to use their devices to play music or videos that other students can hear, taking photos or videos of other students, or carrying out any other form of inappropriate behavior. Our drivers have been instructed to take devices if they spot this kind of behavior.

We thank you for understanding and ask that you please have a quick conversation with your children to help us enforce this message.
