Parent volunteers who have baked something for this event, please bring your treats to De Nobili by 9:30 AM on Sunday. It is never too late to volunteer, so please contact your TPA division coordinator or send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org if you would like to help out!
Ballet Dancers from Teatro Alla Scala to Perform at TASIS on Sunday
Five dancers plus for the first time a soloist from the Corps de Ballet of the Teatro alla Scala in Milan will be performing three classical pas-de-deux and one contemporary group piece in the Palestra at 19:00 on Sunday, October 20. Performances will include the following:
- From Le Corsaire, inspired by Lord Byron's epic poem, “The Corsair”
- From The Flames of Paris, a ballet in four acts based on songs of the French Revolution
- Grand Pas Classique from the ballet Raymonda. This ballet is famous above all for its Grand Pas Classique in the third act, which is often performed independently from the ballet itself.
- Alchemy: a contemporary group dance choreographed by soloist dancer Matteo Gavazzi
A group of Corps de Ballet dancers has been coming to TASIS every few years for the past 20 years. We are fortunate that they are willing to sacrifice their day off to come and perform for us since they are often on tour. They were in China this summer, will be heading to Kuwait in January to perform Giselle, will be in Los Angeles for Giselle and Onjegin this spring, and will go to Japan to perform the dance scenes in the opera La Traviata this summer.
Everyone is welcome to attend this TASIS Cultural Event!
Join Us for Lunch and a Discussion on Tuesday
All TASIS parents are invited to an informational event in Casa Fleming on Tuesday, October 22, beginning at 11:30. Headmaster Christopher Nikoloff and Accreditation Coordinator Nilda Lucchini will provide an update about the Council of International Schools (CIS) accreditation process and lead a discussion about the School’s ongoing efforts to develop a Definition of High Quality Learning, for which parents will be encouraged to provide feedback.
A panini lunch will be served in Casa Fleming at 11:30 for those interested. The presentation and Q&A will commence at 12:00 and should conclude by 13:00.
To help the School prepare for this event, please RSVP to email@example.com if you plan to attend the panini lunch. (You may also let your child’s room parent or TPA section coordinator know if you’d prefer.)

Please see the itineraries and packing lists for each grade level and group.

Service Learning News: Environmental Saveurs
The 8th-grade Service Learning group Environmental Saveurs will participate in an educational and service experience all day on Friday, November 8. Biologist Andrea Persico, who works with the Ticino chapter of ProNatura (the oldest Swiss preservation organization in Switzerland!) will be teaching students how to restore the peat bog area in Bedrina, which was harmed by a recent avalanche. The biodiversity of the area is in need of restoration. The group will spend the day learning how to restore this habitat and then doing some of the work necessary to make that happen!
In the event of inclement weather, the group will go on Tuesday, November 12, instead.

MS Cross Country Team Participates in Terry Fox Run
More than 400 TASIS High School students, Middle School Cross Country runners, and faculty members participated in the School’s third annual Terry Fox Run—completing as many 500-meter laps as possible in 45 minutes—on Wednesday afternoon to raise money for cancer research and honor the legacy of inspiring athlete, humanitarian, and activist Terry Fox. Through donations and the purchase of pink ribbons, the event raised just over CHF 1000 for the Swiss Cancer Foundation, which used last year’s donation to develop digital marketing tools designed to continue raising awareness for the many facets of this terrible disease.
Learn more about this year’s Terry Fox Run on the TASIS Blog, and please enjoy the letter below from MS Cross Country coaches Dr. Jill Sawyer-Price and Mr. Tommy Manning:
Dear Brave Students and Proud Parents,
We set off this afternoon determined to try our best to achieve our goal of running a collective marathon as emotional supporters of cancer patients and survivors, and also to contribute to TASIS efforts to raise money in aid of the Swiss Cancer Foundation.
Coach Manning and I should have been more ambitious—between the efforts of ten brave Middle School runners and two coaches, we managed to complete 80-some kilometers of collective running on our cross country course over the 45-minute race period!
For many of you, this was definitely the furthest you have run in a “race.” We had students complete 5 km, 8 km, and even 9 km of running. Our Middle School team absolutely left the High School participants standing, and many of them were impressed not to mention inspired by your fitness and determination.
So a HUGE well done to all of you! You deserved every single one (or two or three) of those after-race ice creams!
Time now to feel proud of yourselves and mentally prepare for the last race of the season, the NISSA Championships in Como next Tuesday.
For those parents who kindly offered to make a donation, please note that you can do so by reaching out to Anna Scheliga, our contact at the Swiss Cancer Foundation, at email@example.com.
If you prefer to give your child a cash donation to bring to school, we will gladly pass it on to Global Service Program Director Danny Schiff, who will make sure it reaches the foundation.
We are so proud of you, team!
Coach Sawyer and Coach Manning

A Safety Note About the Morning Drop-Off Routine
The TASIS Security Team would like us to remind families that when students are dropped off on the Hadsall side of the street, they should always exit their vehicle on the right side (the side farther away from the street) for safety reasons.
No MS Weekly Bulletin the Next Two Weeks
Please note that the next MS Weekly Bulletin will be sent on Friday, November 8, as we typically do not send bulletins on the Friday preceding a week in which classes are not in session (or during the week in which classes are not in session). If any school-related information needs to be communicated in the meantime, it will be emailed directly.
