|Date:||October 25, 2017|
|Score:||2-0 (25-23, 25-11)|
The TASIS Varsity Boys Volleyball team faced off against non-league opponent Lyceum Alpinum Zuoz (LAZ) on Wednesday afternoon for the two teams' first and only meeting of the season.
The Tigers got off to a slow start in the first set, giving up a string of points with missed serves, unforced passing errors, and missed spikes. The less-experienced team from Zuoz also showed they could play tenacious defense, hustling and making great saves to outlast TASIS and take the momentum. After a couple time outs, the Tigers finally found their rhythm and used their offensive power to take the lead and eke out a close 25-23 win.
In the second set, TASIS improved its communication and passing problems and played more aggressively. Junior setter Nadir Timerbaev ’19 pounded the Zuoz defense with his serves at the start of the set to give TASIS a comfortable 12-0 lead. Middles Cem Koprulu ’19 and Theo Blank ’18 kept the pressure on by controlling the net and kept Zuoz from mounting any offense while senior setter Can Basaran ’18 led the attack for TASIS, racking up a number of assists and kills. The Tigers cruised through the second set 25-11 for their sixth win of the season.
The next contest for the Tigers will be this Friday when they travel to IS Basel for the annual SGIS Championship Tournament.
