TASIS 2 - ASM 0
The Varsity Girls Soccer team came away with a convincing 2-0 win over the American School of Milan (ASM) on Saturday as parents packed the stands for Family Weekend. Heather Hines ’19 was the catalyst, as she was relentless on the opponent's goal with shots from everywhere on the field. But it was her passing that finally broke open the scoreless game as she drove the left wing and crossed the ball over the goalkeeper’s head to teammate Lucia Ugolotti ’20, who pounded the ball into the back of the net for the game’s first goal. Katie Kelly ’19 was also impressive in the net as she stopped several shots in her first full game as goalkeeper. She made a crucial save late in the match off a free kick inside the box, as she made the one-handed save to knock the ball out and take away ASM’s biggest scoring chance of the match. Olivia Haunso ’19, Teresa Maneschi ’19, and Samantha Walker ’19 also featured in the defense, as they returned the favor to the visiting team after the Tigers were shut out in Milan three weeks ago.
The Tigers found some insurance late in the first half when Floor Van Leeuwen ’22 slid in behind the defense as Hines gave her a great through ball and the freshman easily put the ball past a diving keeper for the game’s final goal. It was Hines’s fifth assist on the season as she has taken over the center midfield spot on the team.
TASIS will play the FC Lugano U16 girls team on Wednesday, October 24, before heading off to Academic Travel. The team is gearing up for three major tournaments in November, including the European Schools Championship in Lisbon, Portugal, on November 16 and 17.
