Soccer - Boys (V) vs. American School of Milan (ASM)

Event Type: Scrimmage

Date: September 22, 2018

Event Recap:

The Boys Varsity Soccer team had a friendly match at the American School of Milan on September 22. It was ASM's opening match of the season and took place on a beautiful day in Lombardy. ASM took an early lead, catching the Tiger's defense off balance with some excellent one-two passing and a solid shot driven past diving keeper Enzo Tondo '20—a grounder to the left side of the net. The boys were quick to respond, with some great pressure applied to the ASM keeper by Giuseppe Tola '19 and Fumiya Imai '21, who caught a loose ball from the goalie at the 18, beat two defenders, and placed a clean shot in goal. The Tigers continued attacking the opponent's’ defense from the corners, first off a free kick in the 20th minute and then from some notable work by Tyler Arscott '20 at left mid.

In the second half, after some water and a regroup, the boys were back at it. Alessandro Piermattei '20 capitalized on a great pass into the penalty area and made the score 2–1. The boys worked hard to maintain positioning, especially in the midfield and the wings, and had some great drives up the sidelines, stretching the opponent’s defense. ASM challenged the Tigers with the same and found a late goal in the 70th minute—an arcing shot from outside the 18 that took many by surprise—to knot the game at 2.

Both teams played with enthusiasm, sportsmanship, and intensity. TASIS will face ASM again in two weeks on its home field during Family Weekend.

Go Tigers!
