Soccer - Boys (V) vs. American School of Milan (ASM)

Event Type: Regular

Date: October 13, 2018

Event Recap:

On the Saturday afternoon of Family Weekend, the Varsity Boys Soccer team matched up against the American School of Milan (ASM). It was a beautiful fall day, and the boys came out ready to compete. After a 2-2 draw with ASM just two weeks prior, the TASIS boys knew it would be a close match.

After the opening whistle blew, the Tigers used their newfound confidence to move the ball quickly and put pressure on ASM's defense with some early through-balls up the middle. Match captain Giuseppe Tola '19 led the attack along with Fumiya Imai '21. Midfielder Arslan Timerbaev '21 applied some solid pressure and quick distribution, and the Tigers developed many strong chances that broke through the defensive line but struggled to find the finishing touch.

Toward the middle of the first half, ASM recovered a loose ball, found an opening, and scored with a low grounder from inside the 18. That didn't stop the TASIS boys. With an assist from Adrian Esmoris '21 in midfield, Tola sent a driven ball from just outside the 18 to the back of the net, evening up the score in the final minutes of the half.

After some water and a short break, the boys were back at it. TASIS improved its possession and generated even more opportunities in the attacking third. Darius Pavel '19 had a solid match with several scoring chances, including a driven header off a corner kick and a nicely placed free kick from the left wing. With momentum on the Tigers’ side, Tola drew a penalty on a promising drive up the middle and Mikail Hameed '19 finished it off to bring the score to 2-1.

Despite a barrage of advances from an ASM team eagerly seeking an equalizer, Filip Larsson '19, Patryk Herok '20, Emiliano Rodriguez '21, and Enzo Allanson '21 held off the pressure until the final whistle. It was also a noteworthy performance by Enzo Tondo '20 in goal, at one point blocking three rapid-fire shots on target.
