Where Do TASIS Students Go To College?
Any student graduating from TASIS has earned, at a minimum, a standard US-accredited High School Diploma and can expect to gain admission to quality universities, particularly in the United States. Students who are driven to find a home at one of the world’s most selective universities can do so by pursuing an International Baccalaureate Diploma (as 49 of 109 students in the Class of 2020 did) or by taking a number of Advanced Placement courses and scoring highly on the corresponding exams. Students may further bolster their candidacy by performing well on standardized tests, writing excellent personal statements, securing strong reference letters, and exhibiting an impressive commitment to some combination of the arts, athletics, local and global service, and leadership positions on or off campus.
In short, there are many paths to success at TASIS. Below we examine the roads traveled by a number of recent graduates.
Hannah Gage ’17 (United States/South Korea) accepted an offer with scholarship from The Ohio State University, where she will be a Pre-Medicine candidate. She declined an offer with scholarship from Wright State University and an offer from the University of Pittsburgh.
The recipient of The Excellence in Science Award at her class’s Commencement Ceremony, Hannah earned a 6 on the demanding Biology HL and Chemistry HL exams en route to an impressive 37 total points on her IB Diploma assessment.
Hannah was also very active outside the classroom during her three years at TASIS. Her excellent work as captain of the Varsity Basketball team and key contributor to the Varsity Cross Country team earned her the 2017 Female Athlete of the Year Award, and she also received The Jan Opsahl Service Award in 2017 for her dedication to the School’s Global Service Program—she traveled to Zambia and Botswana her junior year and was a student leader for the Understanding Ulgii (Teaching in Mongolia) group the following year—and the Cathy Clark Memorial Scholarship Award in 2016 in recognition of her exceptional dedication to community service. She also served as a Dorm Proctor for two years, participated in the TASIS Leadership Academy, and sang in the TASIS Choir.
Hannah credits the School’s College Counseling Office for providing valuable help with her college applications and encouraging her to reach for her goals, and she believes she is ready for the challenge of being a Pre-Medicine student. “I feel that my time at TASIS has prepared me well for the academic rigors of college,” she said. “The IB was a very difficult program that challenged me to manage my time and resources well. In order to succeed, I had to be organized and disciplined. Furthermore, as a boarder, I feel that I have gained a certain amount of independence that will be necessary to succeed and take charge of my life in college.”

Among her many inspiring experiences at TASIS, Hannah described her time with the Leadership Academy, her proctorship, and her role on the basketball team as particularly memorable. She will fondly remember her basketball coach, Kent Hercules; her IB Biology teacher, Dr. Gillian Sawyer-Price; and the many other people who helped make her high school years unforgettable.
“I will miss all of the friendships/relationships I have formed at TASIS,” she said. “Many people have impacted my life here, and I will surely miss them! These people are not limited to my friends only, but also my teachers, dorm parents, and coaches. I will miss the memories I have made with them and all the incredible experiences we've shared together!”
